This weekend we celebrated one year in this darling home of ours. What an incredible year of changes it’s been… this time last year I was about 9 weeks pregnant and SO exhausted after cleaning, moving and unpacking and now I’m sitting here watching our 5-month-old roll around on the floor playing while I type this.
That’s not the only big change though! We’ve done so much work on this property, though a lot of the time it doesn’t feel like it until we look back on our progress photos.
This isn’t a complete list but it is a list of some of the more labor intensive things we’ve done! We’ve cleared an enormous amount of vegetation, removed the old house fence and built a picket fence for the front (which we’ve decided to extend for aesthetics and will hopefully be done later this year along with the remaining side which will be a post and rail fence with dog mesh) and a solid side fence. We’ve planted new gardens and given old ones a makeover. A chicken coop (more of a palace really) has been built, the floors in our living space and main bedrooms sanded and refinished and some of the gap filling and internal painting has been completed. We also gave the fireplace a makeover (I’ll blog about this soon).
Progress is a little slower going into our second year in this home now that Magnolia is here but as she gets older we’re finding our rhythm again. Currently Ben is working on the Arbor and pedestrian gate before we get back to fencing and further work inside our home. Hopefully, we’ll be lucky enough to see more rain this year so we can continue to establish the gardens and to improve the soil (it’s like trying to dig through cement).
